Why do people gather in Ginza?
Ginza is lined with many long?established
shops whose product quality is guaranteed, so people who want high?quality
goods?even at a high price?naturally gather there. Foreign visitors also feel
reassured that they can shop without worrying about quality. The entire
district has become a brand in itself.
In particular, Chuo-dori has been a
bustling center since the Edo period. When the Tokugawa shogunate designated
Nihonbashi as the starting point of all major roads in Japan, travelers heading
along the Tokaido would pass through what is now Chuo-dori in Ginza. As a
result, the area has long been a lively hub of activity.
Ginza also attracts the managers responsible for its shops, who pay close
attention to everything from strict building?height regulations to the
way show windows are decorated. These self?regulating organizations function
effectively and help maintain the districtfs character. It is said that
even when GINZA SIX was built, it adhered to these height restrictions,
resulting in the buildingfs current scale
