This garden was originally the estate garden of Kato and Ii families, feudal
lords in the early Edo period. In the early Meiji era, it became an imperial
property and under Emperor Meiji's wishes, various modifications were made.
Empress Dowager Shoken visited the garden freiquently,makine it a historically
significant place.
Covering an area of appoximately 83000 square meters (about 25,000 tsubo),
the garden retains the unique characteristics of Musashino. Within its
grounds are notable spots sucj as Kakumontei, Otsuridai, Shianan Pond ,
the iris garden, and Kiyosams's Well. The scenery is enchanting throughout
the seasons, but the beauty of the iris flowers, cherished by the enshrined
deity, is particularly exceptional in June. |
